After another slight dip in 2022, the prevalence of monthly drinking by American teenagers fell by over 30% in 5 years, almost 50% in 10 years and over 60% in 20 years. For the first time, fewer than 7% of 12-17 yr olds reported any alcohol use in the past month, according to latest results of the Natl Survey on Drug Use and Health, reported last wk by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Admin. The results also provide a closer look at how adult drinking patterns are shifting. While current young adults, age 18-25, are quite a bit less likely to report past-month drinking than older generations, drinking rates remain comparable to historic averages over the age of 26.
