Authorities released few details Friday after raiding a liquor store on U.S. 41.
Lake County sheriff’s police and U.S. Secret Service agents could be seen entering Liquor Stop in the 9200 block of Indianapolis Boulevard and checking a delivery truck at the rear of the building.
Sheriff’s officers assisted in the raid, but a department spokesman referred questions to the Illinois attorney general’s office.
A spokesman for the U.S. Secret Service said it was an ongoing investigation and declined further comment. He referred questions to the Illinois Department of Revenue.
Highland police said they weren’t involved or notified of the investigation.
A related investigation may be underway at Santori’s Liquors, 3529 Ridge Road, Lansing. On Friday evening, authorities were said to be reviewing records at the store or conducting some sort of audit.
A manager inside the store was not willing to comment.
There could be a third Illinois liquor store involved in the investigation.
